  1. Hello sir,

I am married to a gourmet pizza chef (lucky me!) and I was thinking that a pizza stone would make a fabulous gift. What do you think?

So, out of these pizza stones that you recommend, which one would YOU want, er use?

    Thanks a bunch!

    • I think that a pizza stone would make a FABULOUS gift to any serious pizza chef! The things to look for when trying to really WOW your loved one are simple: thick and big.

1/2″ is the typical thickness for less expensive stones, but a stone that is 3/4″ or even 1″ thick retains it heat better and ensures that the pizzas your hubby is whipping out won’t have to wait for the stone to heat back up. Not only will the stone retain its heat better, but it will be much more robust and harder to break.

Next, if you were to measure your available space in the oven and buy a stone that covered the most of the oven rack possible, your chef-husband would simply fall over backwards with admiration. Just make sure there is about 1″ of clearance between the oven sides and the stone so air can continue to circulate. With a larger surface, your husband can create larger, more family style pizzas for all of those dinner parties you may, or may not, be having.
